Northern Education Trust’s Kirk Balk Academy welcomed education leaders from across the Yorkshire and Humber region on 29 November 2023 for a Teach First round table event featuring Russell Hobby CBE, Chief Executive of Teach First.
Teach First, the UK’s largest teacher training provider, has been working since 2003 to strengthen the education system by developing teachers and future leaders. Over the past two decades, the organisation has supported schools nationwide and contributed to improving outcomes for more than two million young people.
The event brought together chief executives, headteachers and senior leaders from a range of schools and multi-academy trusts to take part in an open discussion on key issues affecting education. Drawing on insights gained from recent attendance at both the Labour and Conservative party conferences, Russell Hobby shared perspectives on national policy and its implications for schools at a regional level.
Rather than following a formal agenda, the session was shaped by participants, who were invited to raise questions, share experiences and discuss current challenges facing the sector. Attendees described the conversation as valuable, offering both practical insights and opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues from across the region.
Representatives from Northern Education Trust highlighted the event as an excellent opportunity for professional dialogue and collaboration, strengthening relationships with partner schools and trusts.
Teach First also praised Kirk Balk Academy for hosting the event, commending the organisation, professionalism and welcoming atmosphere. The charity said it would be pleased to return to the academy for future regional events.
